BRINGING VALUES TO LIFE…
Lots and lots going on at the moment, I am working on umpteen different and exciting projects, the loft has never been busier and to throw more activity into the mix – we are starting to get our own house in order in terms of website, marketing, etc…
Which leads me to today’s post – values.
We’ve just started the process of looking at ways to present our values in the studio. (Something very exciting about that coming soon…)
However, presentation is one thing – actually living them is a totally different thing – and that’s what’s really important.
If you’ll indulge me a moment, I have to say I was pretty impressed with our own record on this, we do really bring our values to life and then some. Here are a couple of examples…
Selflessness – this is possibly the biggest one at the loft – we always do a little more than we’re paid for, we offer to give money back if projects come in under-budget and we commit significant studio time to various charities that help people develop more of their potential, three in particular – MCR Pathways, Young Enterprise Scotland and Sisco…
Courage – we are always stepping into the unknown, we courageously stand up and pitch all the time – in the studio, to our clients, online at the moment – whether it’s ideas or ourselves, sometimes every 20 mins or so, sometimes if we’re ready or not. The loft isn’t the place to shy away.
Excellence – we don’t finish until the job is done, properly done and everybody is doubly happy. That means obsessing about punctuation, not just spelling but punctuation, colours matching, etc. Sometimes this means things take longer, sometimes people will get a bit bored, sometimes I’ll badly want to move on myself but if a job is worth doing it’s worth doing excellently.
And there are a couple of other values which I haven mentioned. We don’t always get it right, we don’t always live up to them as completely as I would personally like but they do provide a guiding light for our company and our people.
Most importably – we don’t just pay lip service to them – we’re out there living them on a daily basis.
It would be easy to just say – more organisations should do more stuff, but what’s brilliant about this is that most great companies already do have certain behaviours, rituals, procedures, commitments, etc that they are carrying out exceptionally well so it’s really just a case of collecting them, categorising them and presenting them in a way that customers, suppliers, staff and other stakeholders will understand better.
As always, if you’re looking for a hand, please don’t hesitate to drop me a line…
